NATIONAL GRID CUSTOMERS!

DID YOU KNOW YOU ARE ENTITLED TO SAVINGS FOR CHOOSING AN ENERGY SUPPLIER OTHER THAN THE UTILITY?

How?

Your electric service is made up of two parts, supply and delivery. In a deregulated state, you can purchase your electric supply from your local utility or an energy service company (ESCO).

By choosing an ESCO, you are entitled to receive these credits.

  • the applicable sales tax credit on delivery

  • the applicable GRT/tariff surcharge tax credit

  • a consolidated bill credit

  • A “customer service” credit. (A credit that is given to a customer as an incentive to choose a supplier other than the utility)

Why?

If you elect to stay with the Utility as your electric supplier, you will NOT receive these savings, so choose an ESCO. Why pay more than you need to?
No matter which supplier you choose, your utility is still responsible for delivering your electricity safely and reliably. They will respond to service and emergency needs and provide storm restoration services.

YOUR CHOICE WILL DICTATE YOUR AMOUNT SAVED.

Competition in the energy marketplace continues to increase as the deregulated energy markets evolve. As a result, you may find yourself being contacted by a number of energy marketers, telemarketers and various sales people. They all claim to be offering the “best deal”. Unfortunately, the complexity of energy pricing makes it a target for confusion and misrepresentation. This following questions will help you decide which supplier to choose.

KEY QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN CHOOSING AN ENERGY SERVICES COMPANY (ESCO)

  • Are the supply rates variable or fixed? Are the rates verifiable in both programs?

  • Is there a contract (what is the length, are rates and ESCO fees defined, are all associated cancellation fees in the contract defined, does the contract have an auto-renewal)?

  • Do the promised discounts or savings continue through your entire enrollment period, or is it just for an introductory period? Can you verify what the rates are as compared to the utility?

  • Will the ESCO charge management fees? Are these fees added on top of the rate promised? Are these fees consistent and verifiable every month? In most cases, this fee causes the rate per KWH to be more than the rate the utility would have charged.

  • Will the ESCO take part of your entitled customer service credit and how much? Usually 50% or more is taken by the ESCO.
